This article is writting on the basis of a friend's essay, I transform it into my version and I hope that my writting is not retrogress so that it acounts: Economic globalization benefits the world immensely, especially the prosperity of tourism. As a result, the cultures, languages and customs in the minorities are not mysterious to the world any more, which should be attributed to the popularity of tourism.

It is a consensus that tourism can stimulate the economic development in a region, since tourism plays an important role in the acceleration of the improvement of service, such as transportation, accommodation, catering and other marginal business. With a view to attracting more tourists, the minority regions have to consider how to improve their image and service, during the course of which they can have an overall plan to promote the status of their region. Nowadays, many people travel for minority regions to satisfy their curiosity, where they can have unexpected findings.

However, since tourism has become increasingly commercialize at the present time, it brings on some tension between the local residents and the tourists. Residents of the Lijiang River Old Town—one of the world heritage sites in Yunan, for instance, are confronted with such kind of problems. Complaints are frequently aroused by Naxi, an ethnic minority in the Lijiang River, mainly about prostitution and drugs which attributed exclusively to the tourists and immigration for they do not need to respect the traditional way of doing things. Another considerable cause for the tension is that the private space of the local residents is shrinking. Where once the locals stack firewood outside their home or dry skins on the pavement, both the state and tourists would have claimed the space for their own needs.

Furthermore, tourism has led a surge in knowledge on local culture as well as some traditional skills that have been revived and maintained, which is absurd as what Lijiang’s tourism studies indicates. Schools along with some research institutions have been established offering classes of dialects, local music and scripts to the local people themselves, especially children. Tourists from majority countries and regions render the local residents a lot of new cultures and customs, which, presumably, destruct the minorities’ culture which have been handed down from old ages and enjoyed very splendid history.

Admittedly, tourism damages the natural environment in some minority regions and spoils the peaceful life of them to some degree due to their frequent activities in the minority regions, the cultures and customs being deteriorated in some regions, which is not what we expected. Therefore we should be on the alert for the damage to the minority regions and take effective means to tackle the problems tourism arouses.
