摘要：Gases containing propylene and ethylene in a weight ratio of the former to thelatter greater than 1 together with aromatic hydrocarbons are obtained by crackingliquid hydrocarbons at elevated temperature in contact with a catalyst comprisingalumina and combined halogen. The catalyst preferably contains 0.1-15% wt. fluorine andis prepared by contacting the alumina with a compound of the halogen with one or moreof the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, e.g. CF4, as described in Specification956,684. As described in Specification 956,685, the fluorine is preferably present in anamount 0.25 X 10-4 to 2 X 10-4 grams/sq. metre of catalyst surface area. Otherrefractory oxides of metals of Groups 3-5 may be present. The feed may be a naphtha(C4-200 DEG C.) or gas oil (200-450 DEG C.) and is cracked at 450-800 DEG C., for 0.05-1second. Alkyl aromatics are also formed and partially dealkylated.
