Lessen 1

1. we were formed into an intricate pattern in the great courtyard surrounded by high buildings; form each floor we were overlooked by a long balcony roofed in wood.

 people could see the intricate patter which we were formed into from the balcony with the wooden roof on each floor of the high buildings.

2. Nothing lay ahead of us but exertion, struggle, and perseverance. the only thing they should do is try their best and keep working hard until graduation.

3. Those who were able took advantage of opportunities for success and happiness that presented themselves.

 Once the opportunities appear, those wise people would grasp them in order to be successful and happy,

4. I did not believe there was really any good to be had in tearing me away from home and throwing me into the huge, high-walled building.

 I thought it was no good forcing me out of home and go to school.
