摘要:1,045,518. Shearing; angular bending. AMP. Inc. Aug. 13, 1965 [Aug. 24, 1964;June 9, 1965], No. 34806/65. Headings B3E and B3W. An apparatus in which a power shaftis arranged to drive in reciprocating motion a plurality of tools comprises a plurality ofactuator levers 60, 62, 64, 66, pivotally mounted on a jack shaft 58 which extends parallelto a power shaft 48 on which are mounted a corresponding number of cams 102, 110, 114and 126, a plurality of rods 88, 90 coupled to the tools 38, 40 and mounted for swingingmovement and connecting levers 100, 108 acting between the rods and the actuatorlevers, so that as the cams 102 and 110 oscillate the actuator levers 64, 68 respectively, the rods 88, 90 move to reciprocate the tools. The connecting lever 100 acts on the rod88 through a toggle linkage 92, 94 and a similar toggle linkage 104, 106 connects the rod90 and the connecting lever 108. The rods 88, 90 are freely pivoted on the shaft 48. Theapparatus is described with reference to assembling a socket connector 2, Figs. 1 and 2(not shown), to a printed circuit board 18 and comprises tools for shearing the connector2 from carrier strips 12 and 14, inserting the connector into the board, bending the legs 8and 10 against the lower face of the board and feeding the carrier strips forward to bringanother connector to the shearing station. Shearing.-The shearing tool is connected to arod 118 which is pivotally attached at 116 to a rod 112 which is connected to the lever 66
so that as the lever 66 is rotated anti-clockwise the rod 118 moves to the left and shearsthe connector from the strips 12 and 14 by cooperating with an aperture 91 in a tube 40which has previously been lowered by movement of the rod 90. In its lowered positionthe tube 40 also clamps the circuit-board 18. Inserting connector in circuit-board.-Theplunger 38 is lowered by the rod 90 and passes through the tube 40 to push the legs8,10 of the connector through the board 18. Bending.-The bending tools are operated bya rod 120 which is pivotally attached to a lever 122 which is fulcrummed on the shaft 58and is connected at its upper end to the lever 62, so that as the lever 62 is rotatedanticlockwise by the cam 126 the rod 120 moves to the right. The left-hand end of therod 120 is bifurcated and is connected by a pin 168, Figs. 11-15 (not shown), to togglelinks 170, 172 which are connected to pins 154, 162. Also mounted on the pin 154 are apair of arms 150, 152 which have bending fingers 44 at their upper ends and opposedcam surfaces 160 which are engaged by the pin 162. Each of the pins 154, 162 passesthrough over-size openings in a pair of supporting side plates 156, 158 and the pin 162 isbiased towards the pin 154 by springs 164 anchored to pins 166 fixed in the plates 156and 158. During the inserting operation the fingers 44 project through the board 18 toguide the connector. As the rod 120 moves to the right the pin 154 moves downwardsand the fingers are withdrawn from the board. Further movement of the rod causes thepin 162 to move downwardly against the springs 164, and the pin 154 acts on the camsurfaces 160 to move the fingers 44 apart and bend the legs 8, 10 against the board 18.Feeding mechanism.-The feeding mechanism is driven by a rod 84 pivotally connected tothe lever 60. A link 128, Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown), is connected to the rod 84 and to a fixedblock 134 and a further link 130 is connected to the rod 84 and to a pin 140 whichextends through a slot in the block 134. A feed pawl is also mounted on the pin 140 andis biased in an anti-clockwise sense by a spring 142. As the rod 84 moves to the left thepawl 138 engages the strip of connectors to move them to the right (as seen in Fig. 6)between guide plates 135 and through a recess 136 in the block 134. The completemachine is controlled by a pedal-operated one-revolution clutch and the return
movement of the levers 60, 62, 64, 66 is effected by springs. In a modification to thelinkage for moving the rods 88 and 90, which increases the thrust available at thebeginning and end of the stroke, Figs. 16 and 17 (not shown), the rod 178, whichcorresponds to either of the rods 88 or 90 is driven by a lever 176 which comprisesspaced-apart parallel plates pivotally mounted to the jack shaft 58. A link 184 is attachedto the lever 176 by a pin-and-slot connection 186, 188 and to the rod 178 by toggle links190, 192. A second link 196 is attached to the lever 176 by a pin-and-slot connection 198,200 and to the rod 178 by toggle links 202, 206 so that when the lever 176 is rotatedanti-clockwise by the cam 182 the link 196 acts on the rod through the toggle links 202,206 which are initially almost straight so that a considerable force is applied to the rod178. During this movement the toggle links 190, 192 are partially straightened and as themovement of the lever continues the pin 186 engages the left-hand end of the slot 188and applies thrust to the rod 178.
