Nearly 20,000 deaths due to lung cancer occurred in Canada in 2003. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death due to cancer in Canada, representing 30% of the cancer deaths in males and 25% of the cancer deaths in females.

Medical research has contributed much to our understanding of depression. However， scientists do not know the exact cause of depressive illness. Probably no single cause gives rise to the illness.
In the past, doctors believed that depression was the result of thoughts or emotions that were troubling for a person. More recently， experts realize that several factors can work together to make a person become depressed. The three most important of these are biological， genetic, and environmental factors。
Biological causes are due to changes in the chemistry of the brain， such as changes in the levels of important chemicals.
Genetic causes are the result of what you get from your parents。 If one or both of your parents have experienced depression， it can be passed on to you. Scientists believe genetic factors play a role in some depressions. Recent genetic research also finds that if one twin suffers from depression， the other twin has a 70 percent chance of also having the illness。
Environmental factors, also called emotional factors， result from stressful emotional situations, such as a lack of loving parents or the death of a parent during childhood. To make it even more complicated， depression can also occur as a result of the three factors joined together.

I’m a young doctor and I want to share some of my feelings.
