Method for measuring the bearings of targets by means of beam patterns,such that sound radiated by the target and (if applicable) signals radiated by one or moredecoys are received via at least one beam pattern consisting of a main lobe and sidelobes, and such that sounds received via one or more side lobes are attenuated by one ormore zero points generated at these angles in the beam pattern, characterised in thatthe time variation of the envelope of sound received via the beam pattern is determined,the time variation is investigated to find its spectral components, and if spectralcomponents occur at non-zero frequencies then this bearing is displayed as the targetbearing.
